I swapped out my old camera for Teri’s newer Casio. Looking at the camera display the images looks amazing. But after uploading to my computer the where a little under exposed (not bright). So I may need to retake the photos. Also I took the shots from two different camera zoom positions (without Digital zoom on). The problem with Teri’s camera is that adjusting the focus is a pain and not very exact. I know I can get better results with an easily adjustable zoom/focus. I am looking to get a Nikon D60. The better the picture is from the point of taking it, the less work that needs to be done in photoshop and elsewhere. With the D60 I hope to not have to do any photoshop touch work.

But as for now the results are better. Here are the best results I could get with Teri’s Casio 10.2 megapixel camera. I did all the parts provided to me (these following examples have been cropped, resized, and touched in photoshop to make up for the lack of exposure from two shot of a shutter speed):

The Purchase

I am attempting to take photos of pool parts for General Pool and Spa Supply to be use for the Website as well as Parts Catalogs. I am an amateur photographer at best, and as such am very limited on taking studio quality photos. I know from school at UCSD that the minimalist setup is to arrange lighting in three points around the point of interest to reduce shadows on and around the object/subject.

I first looked around for a cheap lighting system available on ‘the web’. There were none of course. Each light I stumbled upon ran about $300 dollars or more for the cheapest product. For my budget and needs I felt this was over-kill. So I ventured out to my local Home Depot to see about getting some flood lamps. To my surprise I found reasonable prices. I ended up leaving Home Depot with a $40 receipt for three 250watt Halogen flood lamps for use in outdoor construction as my lights.

The lighting I am using for the parts photos consist of 3 Construction Flood Lamps with 250watt bulbs.

The Setup

My Setup is pretty basic. Right now I have the lights setup on some books. I may purchase some cheap multipurpose tripods that I can mount the flood lamps to in the future, but for now this should suffice as most the parts are rather small.

The Verdict

But because I am going cheap (more…)

While at UCSD, I was introduced to the world of HTML version 4.0. Back in that time, around the year 2000, I began my coding for web content with something that looked similar to:

HTML 4.0 example:

Here is some white text in Arial font at a 12 pixel size.

Granted at the time I was being educated through the Art Department (specifically ICAM Department), which tended teach a less-technical and more ‘what ever means necessary’ method of programming. So HTML basics were all I knew.

Little did I know that at that time the W3C had issued the new and ever more elegant XHTML. It wasn’t until the end of my undergraduate education that I had discovered how archaic HTML 4.0 had become.

I am not a fan of it.
On the positive side of things, myspace does allow me to keep in touch with people I haven’t talked/written to in a while; after all I am poor at contacting people <del>(I hate my cell phone and am currently looking for a better Email solution over my Yahoo account)</del> <ins>I have a new iPhone which I love and am using a new @mikegelhaus.com IMAP email account, life hasn’t ever been this easy</ins>. So hopefully now I may improve upon that. We shall see.

On a side note. I truly think that myspace may find more user-ship if they created a Flickr-esque web object or an RSS feed for your friends list so that people like myself can add to our own sites as well. Just a thought.

Well today is the start of a new life for me; A life of a blogger. I am not really sure how to begin this blog, so I figured I would just “wing it”.

I first thought I might talk about me, but I figured that can be taken care of in my about page. So if you want to know more about me take a gander over that page as well as my Resume and Portfolio pages.

So instead I figured I would talk about this blog itself…

I am not particularly sure what topics I may produce in the future, nor what direction it may go, I just know that in the end of it all, I am doing this for me. Sure I may have some subscribers/readers (with some hopefully insightful and creative feedback and criticisms) in the future, but as I said before I write everything here to speak my mind.

When I do speak my mind, I will do the best to censor my vocabulary, as well as maintain a reasonable grasp on grammar and spelling as I write. If you are offended or irritated by anything I may write I would love to read your feedback. If you see any grammatical/spelling mistakes I will gladly fix them (as long as they are brought to my attention).

To all future readers, I say welcome!

Cheers,

Mike
